Why I'm Leaving Facebook
I'm exiting facebook this week, and it's not due to any political or app-specific frustrations - it's a move I'm making with me and my partner in mind.
My fella and I have both been through the medical wringer these past few years, and in recent developments, we've somehow both slowly and vastly improved, physically, emotionally, and mentally. With a fresh feeling about life, a tremendous shift in my own work flow, and a release of incredibly heavy burdens we both forgot we were carrying, we are embracing this new chapter fully, with renewed priorities that don't leave room for distraction.
For myself, a clearing of the bulk of my work, the downsizing of my creative commitments, has made it easier for me to start saying no to a lot of things I'd be saying yes to on another year. I'm in an intense shift creatively, focusing most of my efforts on tattoos and trying to improve those specific skills exponentially this year.
I will certainly be working on other things privately, like an EXTENSIVE fandom collection of paintings, more dragons and 3D creations, as well as a deeper exploration into some of the unusual mediums I've been casually playing with these last few years. But I need s p a c e in order to do that, and social media comes with a pervasive mental load that feels like nothing but a distraction on a year such as this. So I'm taking the time I've spent there and giving it back to myself, back to my art, so that I can make the most of this new lease on life I've got for a short while.
I'll be sharing these things to Patreon where you can support my lowest tier and get monthly updates on new projects and work, with behind the scenes photos, or select my higher tier and join me for a virtual painting class each month! I also have a middle tier where you can enjoy 20% off my art and services, including tattoos!
Otherwise, I ask that you please keep this website in your favorites, or go ahead and put in a request for tattoos while you're here. You can also message me directly here through the contact page if you're not looking for an appointment and have some other query. This website will be my main communication hub this year, so I appreciate you joining me here!
Virtual Classes
Yes, I now offer a monthly virtual painting class through my newest "Student" Patreon tier. Access to this tier includes a post about supplies needed for each class as well as a heads up about what we'll be painting, and a new 2-hour class each month where you can paint along with me. There are other tiers as well that allow you to follow my art and support my work.
Art Shows
I will be abstaining from art shows this year, with plans to only attend the one I'm applying for in another state. I will still have my art available at our Tattoo shop Wantfull Things, as well as the Birmingham Museum of Art Gift Shop.
Henna
I'll be training some new Henna Artists this year hopefully and we'll have it as another regular offering at the shop! This will be later in Spring 2025.
Tattoo Shop
I do all of my tattoo work out of the Southside Birmingham shop Wantfull Things, which is now open Wed-Sun noon to 6pm every week. We often offer walk-ins on the weekends, as well as a monthly Punk Rock Yard Sale, which features tattoo specials and other local Artists, and often live local Musicians as well! The event is typically held on the first Sunday of each month. You can follow the shop to see our next events, and link up with the Tattoo Artists through Instagram.
